Second World War poster campaigns
NOV 16 2008
A montage of American home-front posters from the Second World War, briefly framed as material meant to inspire, remind and frighten. Posters worked because they were unavoidable and needed no literacy: a single symbol, direct address to 'you', and a small domestic act tied to a distant battlefield. Read them as instruments of mobilisation rather than as records of what people actually believed.
