Paris Faculty of Theology condemns the Feast of Fools

A circular letter of 12 March 1445 from the theology faculty of the University of Paris to the prelates of France, declaring 'how much we abhor and how much we execrate a certain kind of ritual of merriment, which is called by its organizers the Feast of Fools'. It documents a recurring annual custom, not a one-off event. NOTE: many sources date this 1444 because the medieval French calendar began the year at the Annunciation (25 March); 12 March 1445 is the modern equivalent.
