Italian loan of 100 million gold francs requested

In 1931 Zog asked Italy for a loan of 100 million gold francs and it was granted. Italian lending ran through the Society for the Economic Development of Albania (SVEA), which financed roads, bridges and public buildings. The debt became the lever by which Rome pressed its political demands.
