Hereditary succession in the male line

The 1928 statute made the throne hereditary, the heir being the king's eldest son with succession continuing in the direct male line. Zog had no son until 1939, eleven years into the reign. The rule made Leka's birth on 5 April 1939 a dynastic necessity as much as a family event.
