Sailors demonstrate the French lift at the Angel Island naval station

A first-aid class at the Naval Training Station on Angel Island practises the French lift, a two-man carry for moving an injured man off the ground. The photograph was made on 1 September 1917 by Mrs. C.R. Miller and entered the Navy's unofficial collection of First World War photographs. The bay island served as a training and quarantine post through the war.
