A Chicago Daily News photographer recorded the collapsed and burned-out blocks of San Francisco's Chinatown following the 1906 earthquake and fire. The district was among the hardest hit, and its destruction opened a fight over whether the Chinese community would be allowed to rebuild on the same ground.
