Refugee camp at the Presidio after the earthquake

Emergency shelter set up on Presidio ground for San Franciscans burned out by the April earthquake and fire. The military reservation became one of the city's largest relief sites, absorbing thousands who had lost their homes. The photograph is held by the U.S. National Archives.
