Film propaganda in the First World War

How the combatant states turned cinema, still a novelty in 1914, into a propaganda medium once they had overcome their initial distrust of it. Because real combat was almost impossible to film, most of what audiences accepted as front-line footage was staged behind the lines - an early lesson in how readily a moving image is taken for evidence. The reconstructions were often more convincing than the genuine material.
