The 1928 Basic Statute and the abolition of the Senate

A new constitution, the Basic Statute of the Kingdom, was adopted in 1928 alongside a Civil Code. It replaced the republic's bicameral arrangement with a unicameral Assembly, abolishing the Senate. The statute left the king with extensive powers over legislation and appointments.
