Albania's first national currency

Albania issued its first national currency in February 1926, having previously relied on gold and foreign coin. The franga ari, or gold franc, served as the unit for international transactions and was worth 5 lek. The National Bank issued notes of 1, 5, 20 and 100 franga, with silver coins to 5 franga and gold pieces from 10 to 100.
