Bruff's canvas mountain camp in the Sierra Nevada

Joseph Goldsborough Bruff painted his own mountain lodge in the Sierra Nevada, a cluster of joined white canvas tents around a conical centre tent. A man with a gun stands at the right, with a small yellow dog and tools scattered on the ground. Bruff led a company of overland emigrants and kept an unusually detailed visual record of the crossing.
