An image by the illustrator Chassevent of a Mexican or Californio miner during the California Gold Rush. Spanish-speaking Californians and miners arriving from Sonora were among the earliest to work the gold fields, and were then pushed out by foreign miners' taxes and vigilante pressure. Held by the Oakland Museum of California.
