Waymo opens paid robotaxi rides on freeways

Waymo began carrying public riders on freeways in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix on 12 November 2025, and merged its Bay Area territory into a single zone of more than 260 square miles reaching down the Peninsula. The change moved the robotaxi from a downtown novelty to regional infrastructure, with rides possible from near City Hall to San Jose.
