Chinese temple pictured in a book on the disaster
1906
A plate from The History of the San Francisco Disaster and Mount Vesuvius Horror by Charles Eugene Banks and Opie Read, a popular volume rushed out in the year of the earthquake. The image belongs to the book's treatment of Chinatown, which the fire destroyed almost entirely.
