Soviet agit-trains

A short account of the agitation trains the Bolsheviks sent into the countryside after 1917, fitted with printing presses, poster stocks, film projectors and speakers. The method paired novelty with repetition: cinema arriving in villages that had never seen a projected image gave a handful of simple slogans enormous weight. It let a young state address a largely illiterate population that print alone could not reach.
