Bernays and the Torches of Freedom campaign

A clip from Adam Curtis's series on how Edward Bernays staged the 1929 campaign that presented women smoking in public as an act of emancipation. The method was to attach a product to an existing desire, in this case for independence, and then supply journalists with a scene worth photographing. It is the clearest single illustration of a manufactured news event.
