The Vinland Map is published as pre-Columbian
1965
Yale University Press published the Vinland Map as a 15th-century document showing Norse knowledge of North America before Columbus. Analyses over the following decades found modern titanium compounds in the ink, and in 2021 Yale announced the map was a 20th-century forgery. It was believed for over fifty years, partly because it told scholars something they wanted to be true.
