Alan Abel fakes his own death
JAN 02 1980
Abel staged his own death near the Sundance ski lodge in Utah, complete with a grieving accomplice, and The New York Times ran his obituary on 2 January 1980. It became the first obituary the paper ever retracted. Abel appeared at a press conference the next day to announce that reports of his demise had been grossly exaggerated.
