Google Maps Pokémon Challenge
APR 01 2014
Google Maps hid 150 Pokémon at real-world locations worldwide and invited users to catch them through the mobile app, offering a fake job as 'Pokémon Master' to anyone who found them all. The stunt was widely seen as a rehearsal for real location-based gaming. Niantic, then a Google internal startup, went on to launch Pokémon GO in 2016.
