Sizdah Bedar (سیزده‌بدر) and Dorugh-e Sizdah - the Lie of the Thirteenth

Sizdah Bedar ('thirteen outdoors') is the recurring annual Iranian festival on the thirteenth day of Nowruz, around 1-2 April, when families picnic outdoors. It carries a prank tradition called دروغ سیزده (Dorugh-e Sizdah, 'Lie of the Thirteenth'), the Iranian analogue of April Fools' Day. The year given is the approximate completion of Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, which references 'the thirteenth day of Farvardin'. IMPORTANT: the widely repeated claim that pranks date to 536 BCE is NOT supported by any scholarly source, and Wikipedia itself notes the festival's historical roots are 'a bit vague'.
