Ramez Qalb Al Asad ('Ramez Lion-Hearted') first aired in 2011 on Egypt's Al Hayat TV, trapping celebrities in a lift that opened onto a lion. It launched a run of nine consecutive years of Ramadan prank shows, moving to MBC in 2014 with far larger budgets. The franchise became notorious for cruelty: Egypt's Abbasiya Mental Health Hospital issued an advisory urging parents to keep children from watching, and successive seasons have drawn calls for suspension.
