On 27 June 2019 Matty Roberts, a 20-year-old from Bakersfield, California, created a Facebook event titled 'Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us' as what he called the ultimate shitpost. More than two million people marked themselves attending and the US Air Force issued a public warning. On the day roughly 150 people appeared at the gates, with about 75 approaching them, and around 1,500 attended nearby festivals.
