'Riesensauerei von Patting' - Süddeutsche Zeitung's turbo-pig hoax

On 1 April 1995 the Süddeutsche Zeitung published a report headed 'Riesensauerei von Patting' claiming that genetically modified 'Turboschweine' had been bred with extra cutlets. Several television broadcasters dispatched camera crews to Deggendorf to investigate the supposed scandal before the hoax was revealed. It is cited in German press retrospectives as a classic April hoax satirising biotechnology anxieties.
