Elected President of the Albanian Republic

Albania was declared a republic and Zogu was elected president on 21 January 1925, taking office on 1 February. The constitution granted him a seven-year term with powers wide enough that contemporaries described the office as dictatorial. He could appoint and dismiss ministers and dissolve parliament.
