The veil banned

In 1937 Zog's government legislated a ban on the veiling of women, making Albania one of the first states in the world to do so after Turkey and Iran. Veiling had been largely an urban practice; in the highlands Albanian women had generally not veiled. Zog had his sisters appear publicly unveiled in western dress as models for the policy.
