The Trax Records pressing of the record Frankie Knuckles had already been playing off reel-to-reel at the Warehouse for years, sung by Jamie Principle. Its slow synth pulse and unguarded male vocal set the template for what house could sound like when it was tender rather than hard. Made by two Black gay men in Chicago for a dancefloor that existed because nowhere else would have it.
