BirdLife Names Aldabra an Important Bird Area

The designation recognised the largest frigatebird breeding colony in the Indian Ocean, second largest in the world, alongside red-footed boobies, the endemic drongo, the endemic rail and the Aldabra sacred ibis. Long-term tortoise monitoring also began this year and has run continuously since.
