Seychelles has elected a new president - and with him, new promises about Assomption Island. Dr. Patrick Herminie’s inauguration will take place on Sunday 26th October. 🇸🇨 ⚠️ Dr. Herminie has said construction of the luxury hotel will be “halted.” But “halted” isn’t the same as stopped. ⚖️ We are calling for clarity and accountability. Seychellois citizens deserve transparency, consultation, and protection of their natural heritage. ⁉️ A lot of questions remain: What happens next? Will construction truly stop? Who decides the island’s future? Will scientists and conservationists be consulted? 🌊 Assomption is ecologically sensitive - every part of it. Any destructive development risks harming nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aldabra. Friends of Aldabra stands firm: we oppose any destructive development on Assomption.
