Seychelles’ President-elect, Dr Patrick Herminie, has announced he will suspend all construction on Assomption Island and review the Qatari-funded resort project. 🇸🇨 This comes after more than a year of public pressure and national + international advocacy to expose the project’s risks and demand transparency, a moment of hope for everyone who has spoken up for Aldabra! 🐠🦎🐋🐢🦋🪸🦈 To everyone who has signed, shared, spoken up, or joined our coalition: thank you. We could not have done it without this groundswell of support! 💙 But our work is not over. The deal is paused, not cancelled. 🐚 Friends of Aldabra will continue to call for independent review, including access to the island for a monitoring mission to verify conditions on the ground. We’re also urging the creation of an oversight committee to ensure full transparency, accountability, and public participation in any future decisions concerning Assomption and Aldabra.
