Made in Indonesia
The most famous character in "Italian brainrot" is Indonesian, and so is Boneca Ambalabu. Both come out of a local AI-horror genre, the anomali trend, and were absorbed into an Italian-named roster afterwards. This facet also holds the return journey: a state zakat agency putting the character on a poster about fasting in Shawwal, and a district police force in East Java building a Tung-themed post for the Eid homecoming traffic. The joke went home and became civic furniture.

3 moments in this segment.
- - The character in full, a carved kentongan. The full-body image, released to the public domain through Wikimedia Commons and credited to @noxaasht. The creature is an anthropomorphic kentongan, the Indonesian wooden slit drum, holding a pentungan, a club. The Commons description makes the point that matters most here: despite the Italian brainrot label, this anomaly comes from Indonesia.
- - The state zakat agency uses the character. A public-information poster from BAZNAS, the Republic of Indonesia's national zakat agency, dated 22 April 2025, using Tung Tung Tung Sahur to encourage the six days of voluntary fasting in Shawwal that follow Ramadan. Eight weeks after the original TikTok, a state religious body was using the character in earnest, and the poster sits in the public domain because a machine drew the creature on it.
- - The Jombang police traffic post. Ahead of the 2026 Eid homecoming exodus, the traffic unit of the Jombang District Police in East Java built a Tung-tung Sahur themed service post on Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, working as both a traffic-safety station and a landmark. The meme returned to the place it came from, in the religious season it was made for, as official public infrastructure.
