- - A Danish boy born into the war. Lama Ole Nydahl was born on 19 March 1941 north of Copenhagen and grew up there. His parents took part in the Danish resistance, helping to ferry Jews across the water to safety in neutral Sweden. (Photo: Ole as a boy.)

He studied Philosophy, English and German at the University of Copenhagen, and in the U.S.A., Tübingen and Munich, a restless, brilliant student. A sought-after translator from Tibetan into English, German and Danish, she taught at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi and cared for many high Lamas on their visits to the West.
