Ranked and Matched

Once there were enough characters, the internet did what it always does: ranked them, matched them and made them fight. Tier lists, versus edits, family trees and crossover animations turned a pile of unrelated jokes into something with the shape of a franchise, a cast, a hierarchy, and an audience that argues about it.

Part of Brainrot

41 moments in this segment.

  1. - Germanrot. A clip tagged #Germanrot from 14 January 2025, applying the Italian-brainrot naming joke to German. Within days of the format appearing, other languages were running their own versions of it. It gathered close to 290,000 views on the record.
  2. - The anime crossover edits. An 8 February 2025 edit splicing the brainrot cast into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, which gathered over five million views. Crossovers with established fandoms are the point at which the characters stopped needing an introduction.
  3. - Tralalero Tralala meets Blue Lock. An anime edit pairing the Tralalero Tralala sound with Blue Lock footage. Crossover edits like this pulled the characters into fandoms that had nothing to do with the meme; the record shows around 745,000 views.
  4. - Tralalero Tralala in a JoJo edit. An eleven-second JoJo's Bizarre Adventure edit riding the Tralalero Tralala sound. Anime edits are one of the documented routes by which the character spread beyond meme accounts, and this one is past 2 million views.
  5. - A Serie A club posts a brainrot camel. SSC Napoli's official account made its own Neapolitan version of the camel character in late February 2025. Club and brand accounts joining in is the point where the roster stopped being a niche and became a shared language; about 505,000 views.
  6. - The marble-race battle format begins. The first 'Italien Animals Brainrot Battle' on this account: characters run as marbles down a track until one is left. A whole subgenre of roster competition grew from this template.
  7. - Tralalero Tralala versus Bombardiro Crocodilo. A 7 March 2025 matchup edit that gathered over 45 million views. The versus format converted a set of unrelated characters into a cast with rankings, fixtures and outcomes to argue about.
  8. - Top four brainrot, ranked. A German account ranks its top four characters, naming Bombardiro Crocodilo and Trippi Troppi among them. Ranking videos in early March are the marker that the roster had become fixed enough to argue about; past 1.1 million views.
  9. - Bombardiro against Tralalero. The two flagship characters set head to head in a marble race, at 3.5 million views. Direct match-ups turned a loose set of AI creatures into a roster with rankings.
  10. - Ten Sahur drummers versus one crocodile. Ten copies of Tung Tung Tung Sahur race Bombardiro Crocodilo, eleven days after the Sahur character's first post. The Indonesian creature had already been folded into the Italian line-up.
  11. - Boneca Ambalabu against Frigo Camelo. A versus edit matching the Indonesian frog-tyre against the Italian-named camel. Fights like this are where the separate regional characters were merged into one roster; past 1.3 million views.
  12. - Seven newcomers challenge the leader. Billed as Bombardiro Crocodilo against seven 'newgen' characters. By mid-March arrivals were coming fast enough to be grouped as a generation of their own.
  13. - Funk remix battle. Funk-remixed versions of the two lead characters raced against each other, to 5.5 million views. The remixed audio had become a competing entity rather than a variation.
  14. - The first big Italian brainrot tier list. Posted 14 March 2025, ranking the characters against one another; it gathered over ten million views. A tier list is the marker that a roster has become canon, because you cannot rank a cast until everyone agrees who is in it.
  15. - Špijuniro Golubiro and the Balkan branch. A 15 March 2025 post for the spy-pigeon character, best known member of the Balkan spin-off roster; it gathered 3.2 million views. Each language region grew its own cast under the same naming rules.
  16. - One hundred characters in one race. The first hundred-strong battle here. That the roster could field a hundred distinct named creatures by 16 March 2025 is itself the finding.
  17. - One hundred characters in a marble race. A 75-second marble race running a hundred brainrot animals against each other. By mid-March the cast was large enough to fill a bracket, and this post is past 14 million views.
  18. - Cousins of the crocodile. A race staged between Bombardiro Crocodilo's 'cousins'. Family relationships between characters were being invented and treated as settled within weeks.
  19. - Brr Brr Patapim versus Tung Tung Tung Sahur. A 24 March 2025 matchup edit with over 50 million views. By this point the characters were being staged against each other like a fighting-game roster, with the comments arguing outcomes.
  20. - The anomali creatures enter the arena. An 'anomaly' edition of the battle, drawing on the Indonesian AI-horror creature genre that produced Tung Tung Tung Sahur. Two separate meme ecosystems competing on one track.
  21. - Drawing Brr Brr Patapim by hand. An artist works Brr Brr Patapim into a new sketchbook, answering a follower request. Drawing the AI characters by hand was one of the strongest signals that children had adopted them as their own; past 2.5 million views.
  22. - Brr Brr Patapim as an Invincible reference. A Brr Brr Patapim edit staged as a scene from the animated series Invincible. Around 610,000 views.
  23. - Tung Tung Tung Sahur against Boneca Ambalabu. A versus edit between the two best-known Indonesian characters, both of them filed under Italian brainrot by then. About 248,000 views.
  24. - A football club joins in. Paris Saint-Germain's own TikTok account posted a Špijuniro Golubiro joke on 28 March 2025, gathering 6.3 million views. Brand accounts picking up a roster is the point at which it is safely mainstream and starts losing its edge.
  25. - Juventus posts the brainrot pigeon. Juventus used Spijuniro Golubiro as a matchday post in late March 2025. Within three months of the wave starting, one of Europe's largest clubs was speaking in it; past 1.2 million views.
  26. - Los Tralaleritos against the other baby crews. Three gangs of miniature characters - Tralaleritos, Crocodolitos, Lirilitos - raced as teams to 7.3 million views. The roster had produced a second generation with its own group names.
  27. - Rank the whole roster. A minute-long ranking of the characters, captioned simply 'good ranking?'. At past 15.8 million views it is the most-watched post in this collection, and tier lists like it are how the cast was argued into an order.
  28. - Boneca Ambalabu against Tralalero Tralala. An AI-animated fight between the Indonesian frog-tyre and the shark that started the Italian wave. Past 1.8 million views.
  29. - A dancing duck. A nine-second clip of a duck dancing, with nothing in the caption beyond the fact of it. Real-animal clips circulated inside the brainrot feed alongside the AI ones; the record puts this one past 9.6 million views.
  30. - One camel against the whole roster. Frigo Camello Buffofardello taken on against every other brainrot animal in a single edit. Past 12.2 million views, and a good measure of how large the cast had grown by April 2025.
  31. - Hybrid characters. A compilation of hybrids, characters spliced into one another, at two million views. With the roster full, remixing its own members was the next move available.
  32. - A Ballerina Cappuccina plush. A soft-toy version of the cappuccino-headed ballerina, released to the public domain in 2025. Within months of the characters appearing as image files they existed as objects on shop shelves, alongside sticker packs and collectible cards.
  33. - The roster in one frame. A composite of four central characters: Tralalero Tralala, Tung Tung Tung Sahur, Brr Brr Patapim and Bombardiro Crocodilo. Group shots like this are how a run of unrelated jokes announced itself as a cast.
  34. - Bombardiro Gatino. A cat-headed variation on the Bombardiro template, made by an unidentified user. Derivatives of derivatives were the wave's real engine: every popular character immediately grew a family of near-copies with adjusted vowels.
  35. - Goose plane meets crocodile plane. A two-panel line-up putting the goose-aircraft Bombombini Gusini beside the crocodile-aircraft Bombardiro Crocodilo in the same stormy sky.
  36. - The Italian brainrot line-up. An ensemble on a plain white background: the shark in trainers, the crocodile aircraft, an elephant in striped trousers and several other roster characters crowded together.
  37. - A roster with its own lore. An explainer on how the Italian brainrot characters accumulated relationships, families and crossovers until the fandom was handling them like a franchise rather than a set of jokes.
  38. - The Sahur Family sitcom. An AI-made sitcom staging the characters as a household having an ordinary day. The wave had reached the point of borrowing whole television genres wholesale.
  39. - The line-up, February 2026. A fifteen-second roll-call naming Orcalero Orcala, Espressona Signora, Tralalero Tralala and Ballerina Cappuccina among others. Second-wave characters now stand beside the originals.
  40. - Tralalero in an anime crossover edit. A follower-milestone edit splicing Tralalero Tralala with characters from Bleach and Dragon Ball. Brainrot had become just another asset in the fighting-edit scene.
  41. - Triple T moves in with Tralalero. A crossover in which the Sahur character builds a home inside the shark - the account's largest post at 3.1 million views. Character-to-character storytelling outperformed everything else it made.
