Engraved scene of daily life in a California mining camp
1862
Gustave-Adolphe Chassevent-Bacques drew the working life of the California miner for the French travel journal Le Tour du monde. Illustrated journals like this carried the diggings to European readers who knew the gold country only by report. The plate appeared in volume five of the series.
