The opening chapter of the Strikestory documentary, on the conditions that produced the walkout: the shape-up on the Embarcadero, the company union, and the Depression-era waterfront. It sets up the eighty-two-day coastwide strike and the four days in July when roughly 130,000 San Francisco workers stopped work.
