Troops marching out through the Presidio's Lombard Gate

Soldiers leave the Presidio of San Francisco bound for Manila during the mobilisation for the Spanish-American War. The post served as the staging ground for American forces shipping across the Pacific, and the Lombard Gate was the route out to the city.
