Engraved portrait of the lumberman Samuel Penfield Taylor
1888
Samuel Penfield Taylor came to California in the gold rush and built a paper mill on Lagunitas Creek in Marin County, north of San Francisco. This likeness was engraved for the 1888 county history 'Pen Pictures from the Garden of the World'. The land around his mill is now Samuel P. Taylor State Park.
