Katharine Maurer, the deaconess of Angel Island
1924
Maurer served as a Methodist deaconess at the Angel Island immigration station in San Francisco Bay, where arrivals from Asia were held for inspection. The portrait ran in the Woman's Home Missionary Society journal Woman's Home Missions.
