A hand-printed lithograph satirising the California gold fever, issued as the rush drew tens of thousands west. The sheet belongs to a wave of political caricature that mocked both the prospectors and President James K. Polk, whose message to Congress had confirmed the gold discoveries. The print is held by the Library of Congress.
