A grocery shop in Chinatown photographed by Arnold Genthe
1896
A grocery storefront in San Francisco's Chinatown, from Arnold Genthe's long photographic study of the quarter. Genthe worked the Chinatown streets from 1896 onward, and much of the district he recorded was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire. The image is held in the Genthe Collection at the Library of Congress.
