Newspaper engraving of the staircase where Thomas Bell died
1892
An illustration from an 1892 newspaper report showing the staircase in the San Francisco house of banker Thomas Bell, who died there on 16 October 1892. Press artists routinely drew the scene of a prominent death for readers who would never enter the house. The clipping is preserved as a record of the case.
