Harvey Milk addresses a crowd through a megaphone

Milk speaks at a San Francisco protest on 7 June 1977, called after voters in Dade County, Florida repealed that county's gay rights ordinance. The Dade County campaign galvanised gay organising across the country, and San Francisco's response helped build the base that elected Milk to the Board of Supervisors later that year.
