The Spanish presidio looking out to the Golden Gate

A lithograph by Victor Adam after a drawing by Louis Choris, published in the atlas to Choris's Voyage pittoresque autour du monde. Choris made the original view during his visit around 1817, when the presidio was still a Spanish colonial garrison guarding the strait. The plate is held by the New York Public Library.
