Reading Soviet propaganda posters

A close reading of well-known Soviet posters, taken one at a time with the composition explained. The recurring technique is direct address, a figure looking out of the frame and speaking to the viewer as an individual while representing the state. Several examples are domestic campaigns rather than war messaging, which shows the same visual language applied to everyday conduct.
