Campus swatting wave hits US universities

From August 2025 a coordinated series of false active-shooter reports triggered lockdowns at dozens of American universities, including Villanova, Iowa State and Kansas State. By mid-September 45 campus hoax threats had been logged, affecting an estimated 1.1 million students. Many calls were routed through VoIP services from overseas, slowing identification of those responsible.
