ABC: the collapse of the Madrid Viaduct
DEC 28 1905
On 28 December 1905, two years after the newspaper was founded, ABC reported that the viaduct over Calle Segovia in Madrid had collapsed, complete with a supporting photomontage. It was the first inocentada in ABC's history and one of the earliest documented cases of a major newspaper using image manipulation to sell a hoax. The paper published a note the following day explaining the joke.
