Kammerer's midwife toad
1926
Paul Kammerer claimed his experiments on midwife toads demonstrated the inheritance of acquired characteristics. G. K. Noble found that the specimen's supposed nuptial pads had been injected with India ink. Kammerer denied doing it, blamed an assistant, and killed himself weeks later; whether he was the forger has never been settled.
