Iceland's first media aprílgabb - the flying bus to Akranes
APR 01 1953
The first April Fools' hoax in Icelandic media appeared on the back page of Morgunblaðið on 1 April 1953, claiming a new type of aeroplane, shaped like a bus but with wings and a tail, would carry passengers between Reykjavík and Akranes, illustrated with a faked photograph. Many readers contacted the paper asking when scheduled flights would begin. The hoax was revealed the following day.
