The royal mausoleum destroyed

Communist forces destroyed the Tirana royal mausoleum on 17 November 1944, nine years after its inauguration. The demolition erased the dynasty's monumental presence in the capital. The date would be deliberately echoed by the replica's inauguration exactly 68 years later.
