A 1942 French diving apparatus
1942
A wartime French diving set held by the departmental firefighters museum at Osny. Georges Commeinhes patented a working demand-valve scuba set in 1937 and 1942 and reached 53 metres, the strongest counter-example to Cousteau's claim of priority. He was killed at Strasbourg in 1944.
