The duckbill exhaust valve of a twin-hose regulator

A rubber duckbill exhaust valve. Placing the exhaust level with the diaphragm was the fix that made the 1943 prototype work: at first intake and exhaust sat at different depths, so the regulator free-flowed or starved depending on the diver's posture.
